Our Mission Statement:
AFGE Local 704 is a professional union of workers with exclusive formal rights and duties to represent bargaining unit members in all matters of collective bargaining.

Local 704 is a charter member of the AFGE, a national affiliate of the AFL-CIO. AFGE is the largest Federal employee union representing over 600,000 Federal and D.C. government workers nationwide and overseas. AFGE is headquartered in Washington, D.C. and is divided into 12 geographical districts, with over 1,100 locals. Local 704 is in District 7 which covers Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan. AFGE Local 704 is also a charter member of the AFGE National Council of EPA Locals #238.

Members of AFGE Local 704 are dedicated environmentalists who are committed to regulatory protection of human health and the environment. Thus, it is the objective of the union to not only serve as an advocate for employee rights and a countervailing power to the employer, but to fully enforce the nation’s environmental laws.

Essential to our dual purpose is to hold management accountable for the decisions they make affecting not only our members but the nation’s human health and environment, and in addition to maintain the professional credibility of our members.
