Why USEPA Region 5 Staff Voted Union Yes!!

Local 704 was formed several years ago because many employees were becoming disenfranchised with management and saw unfair treatment of employees at USEPA Region 5. There was another union local at USEPA Region 5 that ended with only one sole member (Local 704's very own Treasurer, Bill Sargent!)

Initial organization efforts were tough. USEPA Staff held elections to decide which labor union would represent them. The day the elections were held, a total of 18 votes were received. The vote was 9 yes for union and 9 no union. 9 voted AFGE and 9 voted NTEU. Local 704 established its charter to operate on October 1, 1996.
